Over 3,000 cases of teenage pregnancies reported in Soroti District

By Stephen Ojacor ~ Over 3,000 cases of teenage pregnancies reported in Soroti district alone from the period of March 2020 to date.

At least 3,502 cases of teenage pregnancies have been reported in Soroti district alone from the period of March 2020 to date and are currently receiving antenatal care from the different health facilities within the district.

This was revealed by the manager of world vision Eastern region, Edward Hauka during yesterday’s international women’s day celebrations for the district held at the mayor’s gardens in Soroti city.

Edward Hauka also revealed that Soroti district breaks a record as a young pregnant girl of 11 years was yesterday operated under c- section at Soroti regional referral hospital.

“In Soroti district, we have registered 3.502 cases of teenage mothers for a period since March 2021 with the youngest being 11years”.he said.

However, Patrick Mugalula, the world vision national associate director made a call to the general public to rise against teenage pregnancies and gender-based violence.

“The duty to protect the girl child is a responsibility of the whole community so let us work together to protect our children. “He said.

The national celebration was held in statehouse Entebbe under the theme; Building on Women’s Strength for a Better Future in the Covid-19 World.
