My name is Bruno, and I'm 27 years old. My girlfriend is 26 years old, and we've been dating for 5 years now. Everything has been going just fine, and I love my girlfriend so much. However, last December, I lost my job, and I've been actively searching for a new one since then, but I haven't had any luck so far. I've been relying on my savings to get by.
Recently, my elder brother reached out to me and informed me that the Uganda People's Defense Force (UPDF) is about to recruit new members. When I discussed this opportunity with my girlfriend, she immediately told me that if I join the UPDF, she will end the relationship. On the other hand, my parents are pressuring me to find something to do, and they believe that joining the UPDF is a good option.
Here's the thing: if I decide to join, there will be no communication for six months because the UPDF doesn't allow trainees to stay in touch with their friends and loved ones until the training is completed. After that, it will take approximately two years for me to stabilize in my new position. I have explained everything to my girlfriend, but she still refuses to accept it. I love her deeply, and I don't want to lose her, but at the same time, I want to join the UPDF to improve my future prospects.
I'm confused about what to do. How can I convince my girlfriend to support my decision and wait for me? Should I decline the UPDF offer to save our relationship? Or should I go ahead and join? I would greatly appreciate your advice on this matter.
