Alfred Opio – communities in Pallisa district have been cautioned against falling down mango trees for burning bricks which is a common practice amongst many people.
The Pallisa district environment officer, Abram Omasai sounded this warning noting that very many mango trees have been cut down by especially the youth who have engaged themselves in brick burning as a business.
“I am here to caution all people who are cutting down mango trees for burning bricks, mango trees are a reserve species, all local council chairpersons should remind their secretaries environment and production to do their duty, anybody who found falling down a tree, please engage our office and we will bring them to book.” He said.
Pallisa District has registered a spike in tree cutting which now worries the authorities of possible effects of change in the weather pattern which in turn affects agricultural production.
